This week, there’s a bunch of exciting stuff, including “Santa Monica 2030,” an evening of urban planning through play with James Rojas, Latin jazz at the Pier, more picnics on the Promenade, and a trip to the Annenberg Beach House with the Santa Monica Public Library.

Join Santa Monica Next and renowned artist and urban planner James Rojas for “Santa Monica 2030” on Tuesday, July 21 at 6 p.m. The event, sponsored by Pocrass & De Los Reyes Bicycle Law, is an evening of urban planning through play, during which attendees will have a chance to visualize and build the Santa Monica of the future together. There will be food and drinks.

¡Cubanismo! at the pier

Come celebrate a new era in Cuban-U.S. relations at the Santa Monica Pier this week with the 14-piece Cuban orchestra, ¡Cubanismo!

“¡Cubanismo! features music steeped in dance and what is essentially know as the Cuban Son, the foundation of other forms of world popular music such as African Soukous to Salsa created in the United States. ¡Cubanismo! will share the stage with Chicano Batman.

SMPL Heads to the Annenberg

The Santa Monica Public Library continues its series of summer beach outings this Friday, July 24. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., SMPL will head to the Annenberg Community Beach House with “a curated collection of books for readers of all ages, a Surfside Lounge to relax and grab some shade, and beach-themed activities for the whole family,” according to Library officials.

“Programs will include: Seaside Story Time for Kids, Hula Dancing and Hula Hooping classes, nautical crafts, and our new South Beach Reads Book Group for adults. Librarians will be on hand to sign out books, answer questions and demonstrate cutting edge library apps, eBooks and streaming media. In addition, anyone signing up for a library card will receive a free Santa Monica Public Library beach tote,” officials said.

Picnic on the Promenade with Downtown Santa Monica

Join Downtown Santa Monica, Inc., the nonprofit that makes Santa Monica’s “living room” run, for a picnic on the Promenade this Friday, July 24 from noon to 3 p.m.

Bring some food and take in the vibrant scene on Third Street, between Arizona Ave. and Santa Monica Boulevard, at DTSM’s pop-up picnic area. This week’s picnic will feature the Rower Challenge presented by Orangetheory Fitness.
