Comment Moderation

Santa Monica Next  welcomes online community discussion and encourages you to join the dialogue.

However, this is a moderated forum. We work hard to maintain a high level of quality and collegiality in the comments section. We may edit or delete ad hominem attacks, unnecessary or uncreative profanity, off-topic posts, lengthy or poorly written rants, flat-earth arguments and comments that we feel don’t add any real value to the conversation that’s underway.

Commenters who verify their Disqus account email address will not have their comments flagged for moderation.  Verifying your email address is the easiest way to have your comments show up as soon as you post them.

Commenters who use a real name or established identity and have participated for some time in the online community will generally be given much more leeway than those who post anonymously.

Commenters who abuse the flagging system – intended to self-police for ad hominem attacks, profanity, and other incivility – will be suspended.

We prefer that the comments not become an echo chamber. We encourage debate and are happy to see opposing viewpoints intelligently expressed and cogently argued in the comments section.
