Who: The City of Santa Monica will be hosting this event, representing just one of the many ways in which the city gets involved in local sustainability.
What: This is the first of two textile recycling events. Attendees are encouraged to bring clean and dry clothing, paired shoes, bedding, linens, hats, belts, rags, and other fabric.

- Tuesday: The Santa Monica City Council hosts a special follow-up meeting at the Council Chambers, located at City Hall, 1685 Main Street. The meeting begins at 6:30 pm. All City Council meetings are open to the public, but this meeting will not be open for public comment. The controversial Hines development plan, which was discussed last week and described in detail here, will be up for a final vote.
- Thursday: Wheat and barley are being planted again in California by small farmers who want to grow and process grain for farmers market customers. Meet some of the farmers who are starting heritage grain production and learn about sourdough starters and whole grain goodness by coming to the Main Library (601 Santa Monica Boulevard) at 6 PM.
- Friday: Thanks to the new community partnership between the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium and the world-renowned Cirque du Soleil, guests can visit the aquarium for free every Friday during the month of February.
- Saturday: The City of Santa Monica hosts a one-day special recycling event, detailed above.
