Twilight Beach Concert

This week’s iteration of the ongoing Twilight Concert Series will feature Omar Souleyman and De Lux. Souleyman, a rising artist from Syria, incorporates a variety of influences into his music, including Syrian folk, dance, and electro music. To hear this amalgam of styles in action, watch Souleyman’s cover of the traditional Kurdish song “Warmi Warmi” below:

If you want to hear more of Souleyman’s music, head down to the south side of the pier this Thursday night! You’ll certainly be in good company; these Twilight concerts are attended by thousands of people every week. One group, the Ellas and Fellas (which you can find on Facebook), hosts themed parties on the sand, a tradition that has endured for six years.

When: Thursday, July 24 at 7:00 p.m. Get to the beach earlier to get a spot.
Where: The south side of the Santa Monica Pier

Picnic on the Promenade / Cinema on the street

In celebration of the Third Street Promenade’s 25th anniversary, Downtown Santa Monica, Inc. is hosting a Picnic on the Promenade, a patio that springs up every Friday on the corner of Arizona and 3rd St., complete with picnic tables, umbrellas, and music provided by KCRW DJs. There will also be a movie screening in the evening as part of the Cinema on the Street series. This week’s screening is Apollo 13, the Oscar-winning movie about the American Apollo space program.

When: Picnic on the Promenade runs from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.; Apollo 13 begins at 8:30 p.m.
Where: Picnic at 3rd Street and Arizona; Apollo 13 will show at 3rd Street and Wilshire.

Handlebar Happy hour at aika trading

This Wednesday, Aika Trading will be hosting a “Handlebar Happy Hour,” in which attendees can talk bikes, get a first look at the items on display in the shop, and enjoy beverages and light snacks. Aika Trading imports and distributes high quality, European-designed bicycling products such as Royal Dutch Gazelle bikes, Basil accessories, Brooks saddles, and much more.

When: Wednesday, July 30 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
