Santa Monica Announces Finalists for 2015 Sustainable Quality Awards

The Chamber of Commerce, city of Santa Monica, and Sustainable Works, announced Tuesday the finalists for the 20th annual Sustainable Quality Awards (SQA).

The 19 local businesses, who are chosen for “making significant achievements in sustainable economic development, social responsibility and stewardship of the natural environment,” will be competing to take home the top prize at the Chamber’s April SQA luncheon.

“Santa Monica businesses are at the forefront of so many areas. It’s no wonder, then, that our companies have incorporated sustainability into their bottom-lines,” said Laurel Rosen, president and CEO of the Chamber.

“The Sustainable Quality Awards honor businesses that have gone above and beyond in doing their part to create a more sustainable Santa Monica. We are proud to honor their leadership,” she said.

This year, Dean Kubani, manager of the City of Santa Monica’s Office of Sustainability and Environment, will receive the Individual Stewardship Award “for his vision, creativity and commitment to advancing sustainable practices in the Santa Monica community” since the launch of the city’s sustainable plan in 1994, the city announced in an press release Tuesday.

The winners will be announced later this month and will be honored at a luncheon at the Le Meridien Delfina Hotel on April 16.

At the event, architect Eric Corey Freed will be the keynote speaker.

“Freed is vice president of the International Living Future Institute, a global hub for visionary programs, including the Living Building Challenge and Living Product Challenge,” according to city officials.
