Summer is in full swing and that means there is no shortage of activities in Santa Monica this week, including the inaugural Pier Concert of the 2015 season, another BUSted storytelling show, Downtown Santa Monica’s Picnic on the Promenade is back, and registration for SMC’s community education fall session.

Morris Day and DÂm-Funk at the Pier

Santa Monica Pier’s 2015 Twilight Concert Series kicks off this Thursday with Morris Day and Dâm-Funk. The concert starts at 8 p.m., but get there early to snag a spot. If you are looking for a social way to enjoy Thursday’s concerts, join Ellas and Fellas for their party in the sand. For the 7th year running, Ellas and Fellas have hosted themed concert parties in the sand next to the Pier.

Busted! is Back

If concerts aren’t your scene, consider heading to the Rapp Saloon on 2nd Street for another (free) installment of Busted! True Stories About Getting Around LA, Told By People Who Don’t Drive, the award-winning transit-oriented storytelling show, in association with Hostelling International and Santa Monica Big Blue Bus. Sign up for SMC’s Community Education fall Session

SMC Community Education’s fall session, which offers more than 190 classes, workshops and tours, is now open for registration.

“The fall session – which begins August 31 – will include several new offerings. An Early Bird Discount of 10 percent is being offered on most Arts and Photography courses through Sept. 7,” officials said. “With a theme of career training and professional development, Community Ed is offering a wide range of courses in fall designed to help students advance their careers.”

Offerings include a Paralegal Academy, the new Customer Service AcademySumi-e Painting, several jewelry making classes, Ayurveda, Night Lights @ Santa Monica Pier (Photography), On Set Production, Total Body Workout to name a few.

DTSM’s Picnics on the Promenade are back

Starting this Friday, join Downtown Santa Monica for its weekly Picnic on the Promenade from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

“Escape from the cubicle and enjoy lunch at Downtown Santa Monica’s Picnic on the Promenade. This annual summer series eases locals and Promenade walkers into the weekend every Friday afternoon with live music, classic board games, interactive challenges, and free services from Downtown merchants. Bring a lunch or grab-and-go from one of Downtown’s award-winning eateries and soak in the sun,” according to DTSM’s website.

This week, expect a street-performer showcase.

When: Friday, July 10 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: 1300 block Third Street Promenade (Between Arizona and Santa Monica Blvd)
