Vancouver Modacity

Los Angeles Streetsblog, Santa Monica Next, Santa Monica Spoke, and the Echo Park Film Center are proud to present “Observations from an Emerging Bicycle Culture” in Santa Monica and at the Film Center this October. The multi-media presentation will be at the Echo Park Film Center (1200 N Alvarado St) on October 8 at 8 p.m. Three nights later, on October 11, Modacity will give the same presentation at an office building (1640 5th Street) at 6 p.m. near the future Expo Line stop in Santa Monica.

You  can RSVP for the events on Facebook here: Echo Park, Santa Monica.

Modacity is Chris and Melissa Bruntlett. They are perhaps best known for their excellent photography at Vancouver Cycle Chic. However, Modacity is an extension of that work and serves as a multi-service consultancy focused on inspiring healthier, happier, simpler forms of urban mobility through words, photos and film.

Chris writes:

Vancouver bike culture is changing.

Fast.

And nowhere is that more evident than in the types of people you see riding bikes. The construction of six protected bike lanes over six years has led to a distinct rise in women, children, seniors, businesses, pets, and cargo on the bikeways, many of whom wouldn’t identify themselves as “cyclists,” nor would they have considered getting on a bike just six years ago.

Modacity‘s Melissa and Chris Bruntlett will tell that inspiring story via words, images and films, including what it means for car-lite, multi-modal families such as their own. They will also share ideas and lessons Angelenos can take home, and help build a bike culture worth bragging to the world about.

Their presentation will include a selection of the Vancouver Cycle Chic films – produced by Chris – which intimately profile a number of Vancouverites who cycle for transportation; demonstrating that riding a bike is a way to be “a part of the city, not apart from the city.”
